Tatra valleys

Valleys - during hiking to the highest peaks as you pass through this wonderful landscape you will see the beautiful Tatra flora and fauna.

The largest valleys are Furkotská (Furkota valley), Mlynická (Mlynica valley), dolina Bielej vody ( Valley of the White water).

Lakes

Are the pride of the High Tatras. The deepest and the largest lake is Veľké Hincovo pleso (20,08ha). The most famous is Štrbské pleso

(19,76ha) and the one with highest altitude is Modré Pliesko (2.192m).

Waterfalls

Caves

The only accessible cave within the boundaries of the Tatra national park is Belianska jaskyňa (the Bellear cave) with a length of 1.370m. Dobšinská ľadová jaskyňa

(Dobšina ice cave) (cca. 80km) - one of the most famous caves with an accessible length

of 515m was discovered in 1870 and as the first cave to be electrically illuminated. It

belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO.

Demänovská jaskyňa slobody ( Demänová cave of freedom) (1.145m) and the Demänovská ľadová

jaskyňa ( Demänová ice cave) (850m), are only 60km far from the hotel. There were bones

of a cave bear from the ice age were found in this ice cave.

Wildlife

Various animals that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, are right here in the High Tatras: for example the chamois and marmot. You can sometimes catch a glimpse of an eagle, falcon, bear, lynx..

Towns and sightseeing - Poprad (15km)

A modern town, the gateway to the High Tatras, Offers a lot of possibilities. Poprad will attract you with its appearance: St. Egidius square, renaissance bell-tower, the evangelic church.

Spišská Sobota belongs to Poprad

Also the town suburb of . This part of the town was founded in 12th century. The church of St. George is famous. It has a big gothic altar, a mayors house, and the house where the king Matthias Corvinus was accomodated.

Kežmarok

(30km) - the former market town, was a former center of crafts, with a seminary, a wooden articular church, the late gothic basilica of the st. Cross, and the castle of Kežmarok.

The European folk craft market takes place annually in July and at Christmas there is a market in December.

Levoča (70km)

A historical town, which belongs to the national heritage of Slovakia. The town was registered in the 13 th century. Interesting sights are mainly the gothic, renaissance and

baroque houses, cathedral of St. Jacob with works of Master Paul, the cage of shame, the mayors house, and a big county house.

Spišská kapitula

A small church town listed as the world heritage UNESCO. Sightseeing: late Roman Cathedral of St. Martin with it's two towers, castle walls,

bishop palace, and the clock tower.

Castles and chateaus

The largest medieval castle in central Europe is Spišský hrad (100km) which Belongs to the world heritage of UNESCO. It was built in 11 th century with area of 4 ha.

Betliar (80km) - the chateau of the family Andrássy from 18th century. The castle grounds feature exotic plants and the resident furniture exhibition will surely attract you.

Krásnohorské podhradie (90km) - a gothic castle from the 14th century. The museum has antique furniture and also a mausoleum. Oravský hrad (150km) - the castles origin is from 13th century, nowadays the castle offers visitors an exhibition of war techniques and antique furniture. Folk art - if you want to get to know more about the history of the

people living under the High Tatras, please come and visit the museum of Liptov´s village in Pribylina (30km). You will be get acquainted with the life of the past by performing

traditional production crafts, jobs and technical works.

Festivals

Organisators prepare regularly themed programs for the visitors, gastronomic specials, folklore performances. Východná (35km) - a village founded in the 13 th century, still today folk customs are alive (folk costume, embroidery). Every first weekend of July there is an organized folklore festival here.

The Ľubovňa Castle

The Ľubovňa Castle was built in the beginning of the 14th century by the Hungarian magnate Omodej Aba. Anyway, dependants of many important Hungarian an Polish noble families, such as the families Drugeths, Kmithas, Lubomirski and Zamoyski have been signed in its history. The castle used to be seat of the Polish wardens of the Scepus area given to deposit for more than 350 years. It was honoured by the visitations of several Hungarian al Polish sovereigns, a.g. Queen Mária, Sigismung Luxemburg, Vladislav ll. Jagiello, Ján Albrecht and Ján Sobieski. The main tower, preserved since the Middle Ages, might be considered one of the precious objects of the castle. The voluminous exhibitions are dedicated to the castel´s history, guilds and craft, as well as the last private owners of the castle, the family Zamoyski.
